Bicycle is part of our childhood friend that remains with us even when we grow old. The best thing about it is that it is so cheap that anyone can afford it. However, while riding bikes it is always important to cover yourself with protective gears like kneecaps, elbow protectors and bicycle helmets.

Helmets are most essential part of bicycle gears. It protects your head from impending accidents that can be quite fatal. If you accidently bump yourself into some hard objects it can cause concussions and even sometimes death. The helmets are headgear that takes this blow and protect your head.

Mostly, helmets are constructed out of hard plastic on the outside and the interior of the helmet is wrapped with line of foamed polymer made out of expanded polystyrene. The thickness of the polystyrene is such that it can withstand impact up to five meters per second in velocity. It also takes the weight of the helmet and thus provides comfort.

There are various types of bicycle helmets that are designed especially for bicycle enthusiasts. One such type is called road type helmet. The exterior of these helmets are made out of brightly colored thin plastic shell that is elongated in its shape, with aerodynamics shape. The interior of the helmet in expanded with twenty millimeter lined polystyrene. It is very light head gear and is perfect to protect the rider from serious injuries during minor accidents.

Other types of bicycle helmets include computer type helmets. These helmets look much like road type helmet but are more rounded in shape. For children under the age of five it is wiser to choose mountain helmet which provide enhanced protection. The BMX or Moto cross helmets covers the riders full-face thus provides complete protection.
