			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For years cellulite has puzzled scientists with researchers hardly knowing exactly what causes it or how to treat it. But a study conducted by Dr Lawrence Birnbaum, in Beverly Hills, California could signal a new breakthrough in anti-cellulite treatments.</p>
<p>Now affecting about 85% of women in the UK, cellulite is a term used to describe the dimpled appearance of skin, which is caused by fat deposits that are just below the surface of the skin. Whilst scientists don't know exactly what causes it, it's believed to be related to a body's inability to get rid of toxins, fat and fluid, which becomes trapped under the skin and causes fibrous tissue to become hard. This is responsible for producing the dreaded dimpling effect.</p>
<p>So can science offer cellulite salvation? It seems so, and it may come in the form of a fatty acid. This is called Conjugated Linoleic Acid. Being heralded as a breakthrough in Cellulite treatment, in numerous recent studies, seems to confirm CLA as an effective anti-cellulite treatment. Most notably in a study conducted in Beverly Hills, California (and published in the 'Advances in Therapy Journal' by Dr Lawrence Birnbaum) 60 females were given CLA for 60 days and 'in as many as 75% of the women, the appearance of the skin improved significantly. Thigh circumference was reduced by an average of 0.88 inch.' These results were also then supported by a study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science by A.V. Rawlings who stated 'CLA was proven to ameliorate the signs of cellulite and improve the appearance of skin.'</p>
<p>While it's clear that CLA could hold the key to treating cellulite, it's not know exactly how. Both Dr Lawrence Birnbaum and Anthony Rawlings concluding that 'further investigation is warranted.' However, experts now believe it could be down to CLA's powerful anti-carcinogenic and antioxidant properties. These work together, to rid the body of toxins. Essentially it's thought the CLA can prevent the accumulation of toxins, fat and fluid under the skin, which causes the fibrous tissue to become hard and 'dimpled.'</p>
<p>Also, while it must be noted cellulite can affect both overweight and underweight women, it is now believed that excess fat can make the condition appear aesthetically worse. And, since CLA has been shown to reduce body fat as well, this could be another explanation as to how it helps reduce cellulite. In a study conducted at the Betanien Medical Center in Oslo, Norway, healthy overweight participants were given CLA over 12 months, to see if it affected their body composition (body fat mass, lean body mass, bone mineral mass.) 'In conclusion, the study shows that CLA supplementation in healthy, overweight adults was well tolerated and confirms also that CLA decreases body fat in overweight humans.' <p>Whilst a good exercise routine and a sound nutrition plan is firstly key, since exercise can stimulate the body's lymph system which helps to rid the body of toxins and correct nutrition can prevent toxins from building in the first place, studies show including CLA in your diet can undoubtedly help.</p>

We have learned our training methods through many hours and days riding with some of the world's top riders. Here is a brief summary of some of the points that we feel really matter. It's important to keep a training and eating diary too, for every day's activity and calorie consumption. But just track your weight once each week. <p>You Should Rest Every Third Day</p>
<p>The more you train or race, then the more important this rule is. Do not push yourself and overtrain. It can set your form and fitness back for a few weeks. Only the pros can ride every day at full tempo. But they have to, in order to be conditioned for lots of three week stage racing. And the pros can often grab 14 hours of sleep on some days, to support their body's recovery process. Your body will need to recover from training without such a sleep luxury. In fact the less fit that you are, then the more this rule of rest should apply. Getting on the bike again after a rest day will feel fantastic!</p>
<p>Do not train when you feel hungry or unwell</p>
<p>Either will drain you and you will do your body more harm than good. After eating good carbs more than one hour before, you can train for 90 minutes without re-fuelling your muscles with some more glycogen. Never feel that it is making you stronger by 'running on empty'. You can deplete muscle strength and it ruins your body's fat burning capabilities. If you ever feel at all unwell, pushing your heart rate can be extremely dangerous. So just treat it as a rest day. Never feel guilty about interrupting any training regime if you feel any symptoms of flu, nausea, or any other illness. And if you are on any painkillers, do not train until 24 hours after a course is completed. Again, just treat it as rest and then feel refreshed and ready when you can get back out on your bike or go running.</p>
<p>Train on alternate days for either leg rides, tempo and intervals</p>
<p>Variety really can be good for elite cycling or athletic life! Unless you have the luxury advantage of lots of free time, to train twice a day (and then get the requisite rest), you should try to get your body accustomed to the season's race conditions. So, for an average sportive or club rider, these two week's' cycling training examples would be:</p>
<p>Week One</p>
<p>Monday. 	Rest</p>
<p>Tuesday. 	60km tempo</p>
<p>Wednesday. 	One-hour sprint intervals</p>
<p>Thursday. 	Rest Day</p>
<p>Friday. 80 km easy</p>
<p>Saturday. 80 km tempo</p>
<p>Sunday. Rest and Relax</p>
<p>Week No. Two</p>
<p>Monday.	One hour intervals</p>
<p>Tuesday. 	100km easy no big efforts</p>
<p>Wednesday. 	Rest</p>
<p>Thursday. 	60km tempo</p>
<p>Friday. One-hour intervals</p>
<p>Saturday. Rest</p>
<p>Sunday. 	120km easy</p>
<p>For an average standard triathlete, or serious cyclist during the season, we recommend that you do as many weekend sportives, or as much racing as possible, to achieve real leg speed. It beats those lonely painful intervals every time, when you are pumped up with adrenaline during competition. However, during the racing season, an elite rider or athlete will need easy days too, training one day for 4-6 hours midweek, between weekend races. Check the balance or training and rest with your club coach or more senior riders in your own training groups. Just remember to follow the rule to rest.
